After eagerly waiting for President Cyril Ramaphosa to address the nation regarding allegations leveled against Senzo Mchunu, citizens have expressed frustration with the most recent developments.
After wrapping up his trip in Brazil, President Ramaphosa came home to anxious and frustrated citizens who were waiting for answers.
This comes after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi came out to make some damning accusations against Minister Senzo Mchunu and other high-ranking individuals while the president was in Brazil participating in the XVII BRICS Summit.
On Sunday, President Ramaphosa took to the podium to address the nation and to detail his plan of action in dealing with this extremely delicate and complicated matter.
His first action included placing Minister Mchunu on leave of absence until an urgent and comprehensive investigation can be concluded. Furthermore, he appointed Professor Firoz Cachalia as acting Minister of Police.

Although Ramaphosa’s decision regarding the police minister saw some side eyes, his announcement to establish a Judicial Commission of Inquiry chaired by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga garnered immense backlash from citizens.
“Among the allegations that the Commission may investigate are the facilitation of organised crime; suppression or manipulation of investigations; inducement into criminal actions by law enforcement leadership; commission of any other criminal offences and intimidation, victimisation or targeted removal of whistleblowers or officials resisting criminal influence,”
According to some social media users, establishing yet another commission of inquiry is nothing but a waste of taxpayers’ money. Furthermore, these users believe that, similarly to the two commissions the president is sitting on, this 6-month-long investigation will most likely not yield any substantial results, and has only been announced to pacify frustrated citizens.
This was not enough.
We have had enough commissions of inquiry. We are still seeing famous names from the Zondo commission galavanting in places of influence and prominence. Some still doing business with the state.
We needed to give the police more ammunition to deal with…

We can’t wait for elections anymore. This criminal, President Cyril Ramaphosa, doesn’t see us! He ignores our pain and silences our voices with a commission of inquiry that yields no results. We must take it to the streets! Our future can’t wait. Enough is enough! #FamilyMeeting pic.twitter.com/0WCXE7FijX

Contrarily, some citizens, including Power 98.7 FM’s Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, have defended the president’s decision to establish a commission of inquiry, highlighting how this was the only realistic decision to make, as it aligns with the laws that govern the country.
He has ACTED! DECISIVELY! Go argue with a wall!
National Police Commissioner please suspend SIBIYA with IMMEDIATE effect! Or else, he will undermine this commission.
Return all dockets of the Political Task Team Unit and let them make their arrests!
Danko!

Truth be told; #Ramaphosa did the only things he realistically knows how to do.
His launching a Commission of Inquiry doesn’t surprise me.
That said, if it is composed of the right people, then it’ll unearth things and get to the truth.
The REAL problem historically is the…
