‘The news of my illness are extremely exaggerated,’ – Cyril Ramaphosa

by Bongiwe Mati
State of The Nation Address 2019

News that President Cyril Ramaphosa was ill and admitted to hospital recently came to light taking many Mzansi citizens by surprise.

The claims which were later proven false were started by a fake account on social media, the claims further detailed that the president had collapsed and was rushed to the military hospital.

Responding to these claims while with other ANC members, the president shared:

“I had meetings and then I continued working at home. Clearly on the instructions of the officials, that, we want you to be well preserved because the next six days are going to be vigorous for you as president.”

President Cyril continued:

“So, the news of my illness and the news that I was in ICU are extremely exaggerated, I’m fit as a fiddle. I have no sickness whatsoever, I didn’t collapse, at all.”

He finished off saying:

“Nizibonele ke manje (now you can see that I am well), this is not a fake Cyril Ramaphosa, or a double, or a hallogen.”
