The Metro FM Awards debrief – what went wrong for fans to give the show a massive thumbs down?

The coveted Metro FM Music Awards have come and gone, and it appears there is much room for improvement, as viewers wasted no time expressing disappointment and frustration at the current quality and standard of the show.

The Metro FM Music Awards form a significant part of South Africa’s entertainment industry, as their history dates all the way back two decades to the year 2006, where iconic music group Teargas snagged the Song of The Year Award for their hit song Chances.

Although they have managed to remain in the game for almost two decades, the overall quality of the awards show has become a strong talking point over the years, as viewers note plenty of room for improvement for organisers.

Taking place at the Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga, this year’s edition has received plenty of backlash from viewers, as they trash various elements that organisers failed to get right, from the sound quality to the overall flow of the ceremony, as well as their selections for the announcements of the awards.

When are we going to get the Venue versus TV Broadcast sound thing right my beloved South African award shows ??????

What is it going to take?

According to those who tuned in over the weekend, the awards show failed to get a few things right, including the Dineo Ranaka and L-Tido duo, who served as the backstage entertainment,  which viewers labelled as awkward.

Furthermore, viewers were unimpressed by the quality of most performances, except Xoli M and Naledi Aphiwe. According to these users, the sound crew was the culprit for this blunder.

Prominent figures such as DJ Maphorisa and Rami Chuene also chimed in on the conversation, where they expressed disappointment towards the show. On one end, the one Scorpion King member addresses the ‘rigged’ nature of the awards, and reveals that he believes the show has fallen off due to such factors. Rami Chuene on the other hand called upon Sibu Mabena, to intervene, and offer her services as an attempt to save the show.
