The Kolbes adapt to Japanese lifestyle

by Sergio Miller

The last year had been filled with mixed emotions for the Kolbe family.

Earlier this year the Springbok speedster was awarded Man of the Match after an outstanding performance in the final of the European Challenge Cup which resulted in his former club Toulon walking home with the silverware.

After the match the 30-year-old was seen looking extremely emotional with many assuming that it was because he felt overwhelmed with joy. However, this was not the case. He later revealed via social media that the French club made the decision to let him go – a decision that the two-time World cup winner did not understand.

“An emotional couple of weeks It has been for me and my family. Some people might not understand, neither do I, but as I was told ‘it’s a business.’ To put my feelings aside.

“Despite it all, I have tried my best. Sometimes our plans don’t always align with God’s plans for us,” he wrote.

With Cheslin having recently increased his list of accolades with another World Cup trophy, the father of three is now determined to continue the rest of his rugby career as he starts of a new chapter in Japan.

After nearly a month in South Africa the Kolbe family have now jetted off to the Asian continent – a place where he won his first World Cup – to start their journey with his new team, Suntory Sungoliath, in Tokyo.

Here he will join a number of his Springbok teammates like Malcolm Marx, Faf de Klerk and Jesse Kriel who all play for various teams in the country.

While the young family have only been there for a few days they have already shared a few snaps as they experience all there is to do see and do including doing some shopping and getting some KFC while they familiarise themselves with their surroundings.

In one video the pair can be seen delighting in a Japanese dish called Yakiniku – which translates to grilled meat.
