A disturbing video shared by an X (formerly Twitter) user with the username @k9_reaper has gone viral, showing an elderly couple being attacked by a panga-wielding man.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape. Reports indicate that the couple was stabbed multiple times and later required hospitalisation.

On X, popular South African musician @TheKiffness identified the couple as the parents of a friend from church and provided an update on their condition. He confirmed that the couple is stable despite the severity of the attack.

“Remarkably, the injuries aren’t as bad as they could have been,” he wrote.

Caution: This video might disturb sensitive viewers.

This couple that got attacked this morning are the parents of a friend from my Church. I just spoke to him now. Remarkably, the injuries are not as bad as they could have been.

The dad had 7 stitches in his head but the panga luckily didn’t go through the skull.

“The father received seven stitches to his head, but fortunately, the panga didn’t go through the skull. His mother is currently in surgery to treat a broken arm from being thrown to the ground, along with a couple of stitches for two stab wounds to the same arm.”

He added, “It could have been worse if the knife had gone deeper. Praise God they are alive. Please keep them in your prayers.”

In the CCTV footage, the couple is seen walking along the road when a man armed with a panga approaches them from behind. He appears to grab a bag from the woman, and when she resists, he begins attacking them.

The couple falls to the ground, with the woman still clutching her bag. The attacker continues his assault as they struggle to defend themselves.

Realising he is not succeeding, the man snatches the woman’s hat from her head and grabs the man’s hat, which had fallen to the ground, before fleeing the scene.
