The internet remembers DJ Bongz’s R800 retailing cap

In the year 2016, multi-award-winning DJ, singer and gwara-gwara dance creator Bongani “DJ Bongz” Dlamini shocked many social media users when he announced the price for his gwara-gwara cap range retailing at R800 each.

This was also the time when the deejay, who had given us many hits in Mzansi, was at the peak of his music career. Having cemented his name in the music industry with hits such as Sobabili, I’ntombi Zo DJ, and As Long As You Love Me, the multi-award-winning artist created a monster song with Gwara-Gwara.

Seeing the success of the Gwara-Gwara song, DJ Bongz went on to create its merchandise which included the heavily-priced cap.

As soon as the cost of the cap was shared, internet users had so much to say, with many saying it was overpriced. The KwaZulu-Natal-born musician later announced that the price was a publicity stunt.

Going down memory lane, account @QinisoTMagubane shared a picture of the cap on X, formerly known as Twitter, asking users if they still remember the deejay’s overpriced cap.

“Y’all remember when DJ Bongz wanted to sell us this cap for R800?”

This post generated a lot of response from many internet users who shared that the deejay took chances.

Bro, not even a Polo Cap is that expensive it’s price range is around R500 and this Bruru wanted to charge so much back then ? ?

One user also noted how the deejay quickly deleted his post after dropping his cap price down.

And the the ppl who actually owned the cap wanted to sue him and he quickly deleted the post ????

Other users defended the deejay, stating that the same people complaining wouldn’t mind paying that amount for international brands.

But you would buy Nike and Gucci for a price bigger than that R800 right?
