The Bomb Productions’ Teboho Mahlatsi dies at 48

The South Africa television and film industry suffered a great loss when it was announced yesterday afternoon that Teboho Mahlatsi had died at the age of 48.

As per the Bomb Shelter website, Teboho was the co-creator and a director on the three seasons of the South African television phenomenon, Yizo Yizo, a youth drama series that garnered the highest ratings in the history of South African television. At the Cinema Tout Ecrand Awards, Yizo Yizo went on to win best international series.

Teboho was one of South Africa’s most prestigious award-winning commercials directors who remained central in the creation of the production company’s films such as Isibaya, Jacob’s Cross and Ayeye. He was also working on the epic drama series Shaka iLembe together with director Angus Gibson.

Sharing this sad news, David Kau posted the family statement confirming Teboho’s passing on his social media. The statement read:

“ON BEHALF OF THE MAHLATSI FAMILY

“It is with the saddest regret that we announce the untimely passing of Filmmaker & Producer – Teboho Moseling Mahlatsi, on the 3rd of July 2023. In lieu of personal condolences, the family kindly requests prayers & that they be given privacy to mourn and come to terms with the tragic loss. Further details will be communicated in due time. – Mahlatsi family.”

Mzansi celebs were shocked to hear the news and sent their condolences.

Sayitsheni Mdakhi added, “Rest in peace, grootman?. I used to think you forgot my name when you called me #TheBrother, I later found out that you called everyone around you The Brother, it was a way of you letting us know that we are family and you’ve got our backs. We lost a real one. Robala ka kgotso (Rest In Peace), The Brother.”

“I cannot believe that the man that shaped & revolutionised the South African film & TV industry, is gone!!! I was so excited about our project together it was not only a bucket list moment, but to be directed by the person that sparked my interest in SOUTH AFRICAN film was a dream come true! My deepest condolences ?You changed the game grootman ??. Gutted ???.”
