The ANC Exhibition: Laughter Through South Africa’s Challenges

South African comedians Themba Robin and Bouwer Bosch are best known for their funny skits and roleplays on Youtube called “This Is Sketchy.” They always turn South Africa’s unpleasant realities into something to laugh about.

In this video, Bouwer and Themba pretended to be Karl Niehausen and Luci MuniMuni. The two characters went on a fantasy adventure to see what they called the “Art Never Corrupts (ANC) Exhibition”, a humorous exhibition portraying South Africans’ struggles and tribulations. The exhibition tour featured several amusing yet emotional displays like water-shedding, load-shedding, potholes, etc. These exhibitions even had artists who in this case were politicians associated with the struggles.

The first artwork was called the  “Urban Decay—Unfilled Potholes and Unfilled Promises,” where they stood in front of a pothole admiring it as if it were beautiful artwork. The other exhibition was a tap that had no water coming out of it, it was called “No Water, No Problem.”  Another artwork was that of a blue pipe sticking out of the ground with an orange net wrapping around it and it was called “Majestic Negligence—a Depiction of Law and Disorder.”

These two comedians brought to light how South Africa is basically in shackles and that people should vote wisely. People commented on YouTube uploading the two gents for their creativity and also adding their own struggles that they were facing. These are some of their comments:

“Most excellent observations.”

“You should see the wetlands in front of my house in Klerksdorp due to a pipe leaking in the road for months now. The birds love it they get to bath early morning and late afternoon
That brass tap is brand new if you left it there I bet it was stolen within 10 seconds of you leaving.”

“Fantastic showing the work of the ANC for 30-some odd years nothing absolutely nothing except decay.”
