In the midst of his ongoing investigation, the Democratic Alliance (DA) member Renaldo Gouws has been appointed as the deputy spokesperson of two portfolios – Tourism and the Auditor General.
Known for his brutal honesty and direct approach when it comes to political affairs in South Africa, the charismatic Renaldo, a key member of the DA, has found himself in hot water in recent months.
This follows a leaking of a viral video of the politician which was filmed a couple of years ago, showing the 40-year-old making a series of racist remarks against black people in the country.
The video showed a younger Renaldo repeatedly making use of the “K” word, calling for the killing of “K*ffers.”
Since then, he has been suspended from the DA. Until news recently emerged of his recent appointment.
IOL reports that the party’s Chief Whip in Parliament, George Michalakis highlighted that while Renaldo has been suspended, he however remains a Member of Parliament and is obliged to fulfil his duties – adding that there is a difference between the party and state.
“Renaldo continues to be suspended from party political duties and will not fulfil his designated role of deputy spokesperson, subject to the outcome of disciplinary.”
George added that the party believes in the rule of law and will decide on Renaldo’s future depending on the outcome of his hearing.
Meanwhile, the rest of the internet is not happy with the idea of Renaldo possibly returning as a Member of Parliament.

This is as incredulous as it is ridiculous. If it wasn’t so seriously tragic,it would’ve been absolutely hilarious. Not only has the DA obviously already decided what the outcome of Renaldo Gouws’ “disciplinary process” is going to be. Why else have they appointed him to serve as pic.twitter.com/B8m0vrxdGx
