Following a successful international season that saw his team win the Qatar Cup, Freedom Cup and the Rugby Championship, Springbok lock Salmaan Moerat and his wife Haanim have one more thing to smile about before we exit 2024.
The young couple recently announced the news of their firstborn son.
Taking to their respective Instagram accounts, the proud parents each took to their stories sharing the news with their followers. For them, this is an extra special moment after years of trying, but falling short with miscarriages.
In a post on her story, Haanim wrote:
“We are pleased to announce the birth of our first son, Yahya Moerat.”
She revealed that the baby was named after Yahya A.S highlighting that the meaning of his name refers to one who is alive, vibrant and living.
“A miracle granted to his (A.S) parents when hopes of having a child seemed impossible,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, in a post of his own Salmaan wrote, “A rugby championship trophy and a baby! Blessed!”

This has been a successful year for the 26-year-old Stormers player. Not only did he win silverware with the Springboks, but he was also given the nod to lead a world-class Springbok team on two occasions in this year’s Rugby Championship competition, a role he handled with lots of appreciation.
Speaking on Salmaan’s character, at the time, team coach, Rassie Erasmus praised him for the leader he has become since his schooling days in Paarl in the Western Cape.
“Salmaan commands respect from his teammates. We would like to congratulate him on this achievement. We do not doubt that he’ll take on this responsibility as successfully as has been the case with the other teams he has led.”
