‘Splendid rendition,’ J Something’s Portuguese national anthem rendition melts many hearts

Mi Casa’s lead singer, J Something recently led the national anthem during the Springboks vs Portugal sold-out test match held at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein recently.

This was no ordinary performance for the singer and restauranteur, as he stood on stage representing the two countries he loved the most, South Africa and Portugal.

The singer was born in Portugal and grew up in South Africa after moving with his family at the age of seven, so it was befitting for him to represent the country he was born in.

Expressing a surreal moment the singer took time to reflect on his performance, he shared a picture of himself holding a microphone at the stadium and captured it, “In this moment, I thought of all the sacrifices my mother made and all the hard decisions she had to make. In this moment I thought of how I had to leave my brother’s side. In this moment I thought of my wife and our family that we’ve built.”

He further went on to add, “In this moment I thought of all the rugby games I played at school and friends I made through the sport. In this moment I thought of how much I love the fact that life has given me time in these two countries that have shaped me into the man I am today. In this moment I thought of how much I love South Africa and Portugal. In this moment I thought of how blessed I am.”

Portuguese South Africans and other internet users took time to commend the singer for a splendid rendition of their Portuguese national anthem commenting:

The singer’s wife Cocoda Fonseca was among those who commented, “You do everything with such humility and grace. I love that you treasure all the special moments life brings your way. Well done my darling.”

Another user added, “What an amazing opportunity to sing the Portuguese national anthem !!??had goosebumps watching you on TV with a whole lot of Saffas in Portugal. Our roots to our heritage always remain deep.”

“Splendid rendition. Blessed,” added one user.
