With the myriad of serious allegations made against some of the country’s high-profile officials, citizens cannot help but look back and relish the days before the Scorpions were disbanded, as efficient crime-fighting systems appear to be a thing of the past.
2025 has been an interesting year for South Africa, to say the least. From dealing with allegations of a white genocide, to dominating in a range of different sporting codes, Mzansi has had its fair share of headline-worthy incidents.
Currently, the serious allegations faced by some of the country’s most high-ranking officials top the list with no competition, as more shocking developments are revealed with each passing day.
Amid all the drama and chaos, citizens cannot help but relish the days when South Africa had a credible specialised unit, specifically tasked with investigating and prosecuting high-level crimes, and tackling issues such as corruption and organised crime.
These citizens express frustration with the government, and individuals such as Kgalema Motlanthe, whom they believe are behind the unit’s disbandment.
These users also highlight how they believe that the disbandment of the specialised unit was to ensure that corruption isn’t stopped, and the revelation of these serious allegations against some of our leaders is no isolated incident. Rather, they view it as a grand plan to make getting away with crimes like corruption easier.
It wasn’t a mistake. It was a strategic move which worked well for them and their cadres.
So it was just terrible for us.

Scorpions were very effective in fighting crime and the anc got rid of them. ANC is responsible for the decline in law and order in this country.

The ANC disbanded Scorpion, disbanded units within the SAPS meant for crime intelligence and weakened the country’s intelligence departments.
Sibiya must do the right thing and release those dockets.

Recently, News24 reported that two companies with deep links to Paul Mashatile’s sons received payments of approximately R36.4million for a Gauteng government contract to service fire alarms and and sprinkler systems at different public hospitals. This comes a day after deputy president suddenly declared ownership of the infamous Constantia mansion, two years after denying it to parliament.
This declaration, coupled with these new developments, has added fuel to the fire as citizens attempt to connect the dots.

And we’re in this mess today because of that disastrous ANC decision to dissolve the Scorpions. They shut down the one unit that actually terrified the corrupt and for what? So the looters could feast in peace😏 https://t.co/2ttJXUwTr1
