SA honours Tokollo ‘Magesh’ Tshabalala as he’s laid to rest

by Sinesipho Joyi

Today, friends and family of TKzee member Tokollo ‘Magesh’ Tshabalala laid him to rest. The legendary kwaito star died on Wednesday, 15 August from epileptic seizures.

Magesh was a part of the popular kwaito group TKzee alongside Kabelo Mabalane and Zwai Bala. Some of their greatest hits include ‘Izinja Zam’ and ‘Dlala Mapantsula’ to name a few.

Magesh’s death which came as a shock to his family, friend and fans. Supporters took to twitter to remember the star and how he contributed to the proudly south African  genre.

Speaking at his funeral, former band-member Pastor Kabelo Mabalane said that there’s a big fat party happening in heaven right now between Mandoza, Brown Dash and Magesh.

‘Music was always a common denominator in our lives. We would fight, we would be the best of friends, but it was music – it was always music that connected us.’

Another former band-member who shared fond memories of the two was Zwai Bala.

‘This past week or these last two days, whenever I think of him I only have things that can make me laugh or smile or you know.

‘When you think of his community and touched people are, I think it’s more of a void and this massive space that Tokollo occupied.’

The memorial service for Magesh we’ll be held on Wednesday, 24 August.
