Elon Musk has been criticised by South Africans for his “God bless America” tweet.
Supposedly harmless, a few South African twitter users were upset with the world’s richest man’s tweet. According to the South African, it feels as if it’s because the Pretoria-born billionaire praised his adoptive country instead of his birth one.
Elon Musk emigrated to the US when he was a young adult. Now Elon is a full US citizen.
In celebration of Independence Day on 4 July, business tycoon Elon Musk tweeted: “God bless America.”
The CEO of Twitter was born in 1971 in Pretoria to businessman Errol Musk and former model Maye Musk.
Immediately after the tweet, South Africans were quick to remind him were he came from.
Chris Excel tweeted: “What about South Africa?”
Media mogul Bonang Matheba commented: “You must come home.”

Elon Musk moved to Canada with his mom and siblings Kimbal and Tosca following his parents divorce. Shortly after they moved to the US.
Elon was raised in a predominantly English-speaking household yet his dad insists that he is partly Afrikaans. According to his father, when the family lived in Pretoria, Elon was extremely unhappy as he was unable to reportedly form friendships and relationships with Afrikaans people.
