Somizi promises to steal the spotlight at the Durban July

by Bongiwe Mati

All roads lead to Durban this weekend for the Hollywoodbets Durban July event happening at the Greyville Racecourse. South African who’s – who’s will be looking lavish in designer outfits by local and international designers.

Somizi Mhlongo has always wowed the crowds at this annual event. From his arrival, the flamboyant tv personality and author makes a grand statement that leaves people talking for weeks after the event has passed. This year’s Hollywoodbets, “Out of This World” themed horsing race event will see the Ndlovu choir as an opening act, singing the national anthem.

For Somizi, this year does not look like it will be any different when it comes to making a statement. The Idols SA judge shared with his millions social media followers that he planned to shut the show down.

In a video, shared on his social media platforms, Somizi said:

“Quick announcement, if two o’clock hits and you’re not at the Durban July, don’t come, because I arrive at two, you understand, hey (gesturing that there would be no point to come in after his grand entrance)!” He finished off the post saying, “come at your own risk after two, ok. sharp.”
