SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam has recently reached over 5 million viewers.

Information provided from the Television Audience Measurement (TAM) by the Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) revealed that Skeem Saam is currently the second most watched show on SABC1, right after Uzalo, the South African reports.

According to the BRCSA, Skeem Saam scored 5 007 032 million viewers, meaning that the soapie only needed about 380 000 viewers to dethrone Uzalo on SABC1.

Uzalo is still the most watched show in South Africa with 5 388 373 million viewers followed by e.tv’s soapie Scandal with 5 036 317 million viewers. Further according to the BRCSA’s July figures, e.tv’s House of Zwide ranks at fourth place after scoring 4.4 million viewers, dethroning Generations: The Legacy.

The title of the most popular TV show on DSTV goes to popular drama series Shaka Ilembe, with a whopping total of 828 000 viewers.

Fans of the soapie Skeem Saam took to social media to congratulate Jabulani Macdonald for reaching the 5 million viewership mark. Many also took the extra step to praise actor Hungani, who joined the show in July to portray the character of Tbose Maputla.

@ReelieN: “Hungani was doing the most last month, congrats to them.”

@MhlangaLindo: “I blame @HunganiNdlovu. The guy trended every day. He brought drama and South Africans were there for it.”

If #SkeemSaam keeps on growing in terms of viewership it might take #etvScandal’s spot as the second most watched show in South Africa ??????????????????? pic.twitter.com/oynU03Ok42
