According to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, in April, the SABC 1 youth soapie peaked with 4.3 million viewers for its top episode, beating Generations: The Legacy‘s 4.1 million.

With this milestone, the show finds itself second only to SABC 1’s other popular show, Uzalo.

Many Twitter users credited the writers and the storyline for the soapie’s success.

A tweep wrote, “Skeem Saam has the best writers. It’s not everyday where you get such good writers in the South African entertainment industry. They don’t repeat storylines and the characters grow. They deserve it!!”
