Siya Kolisi’s Love Story: A Deep Dive into His Dating History Since 2011

by Zaghrah Anthony

Siya Kolisi’s Dating History (2011–2026)

To casual fans, Siya Kolisi is the face of South African rugby — the first Black Springbok captain, a two‑time World Cup winner and a global ambassador for the sport. But to many locals from Gqeberha to Cape Town, there’s another chapter that’s just as human, just as relatable: his love life.

Youthful Days and Early Relationships (2011–2012)

Before the wider public knew his name, Kolisi was a young man living the hustle of early provincial rugby and the vibrant social scene that comes with it. In his 2023 autobiography Rise, he admits that in his early 20s he “loved rugby, he loved drinking, and he loved girls.” At the time he was in a relationship when he met someone who would change his life — Rachel.

Kolisi has said he was out at a restaurant in Cape Town with his then‑girlfriend and friends in May 2012 when he first laid eyes on Rachel Smith. Though he was already seeing someone, something about Rachel’s presence stayed with him. Driving those early connections was the youthful mix of ambition, fun and impulsiveness familiar to many South Africans just finding their places in the world.

Important to note: Kolisi did not name this earlier partner in his book or in public interviews, and little verified information exists about her beyond his own recounting. This suggests he chose to respect her privacy, keeping that chapter of his life out of the spotlight.

Sliding into the DMs, A Modern Romance Begins (2012)

Even before dating apps were the norm, Kolisi turned to social media to start something new. After spotting Rachel at that dinner in 2012, he sent her a Facebook message — while still officially seeing someone else. From cautious conversation to genuine connection, their friendship slowly blossomed.

He later described that first spark as unexpected — the kind that makes you sit up and rethink what you want. For many young South Africans juggling work, study and relationships, this kind of online flirtation feels very familiar.

Growing Together, From First Dates to Partnership (2012–2016)

Once his earlier relationship ended, Siya and Rachel began officially dating. Cape Town’s leafy suburbs and Stellenbosch dinner parties became part of their early memories together. By 2015 they were parents — welcoming their son Nicholas — and in 2016 they married in a beautiful ceremony at Lourensford Wine Estate that South Africans couldn’t stop talking about.

Their love story struck a chord precisely because it felt like a modern South African romance — a young man from a township and a woman from the Eastern Cape finding common purpose, family and national admiration together.

Marriage, Family and Public Life (2016–2024)

For nearly a decade, Siya and Rachel were one of the country’s most admired couples — raising two children, Nicholas and daughter Keziah, and launching the Kolisi Foundation focused on education, food security and equal opportunity. Their combined narrative became part of the wider post‑apartheid optimism that many South Africans held close.

Despite the glossy public image, a chapter of challenge emerged. In October 2024, the couple announced they had decided to end their marriage, emphasizing love, respect and co‑parenting as they transitioned into a new phase of life.

Life After Marriage – Rumours, Reality and New Love (2025–2026)

After the separation, social media was quick to fill with speculation. From old rumours about fitness model interactions to photos with South African media personality Zuki Lamani, fans tried to connect dots that weren’t always there. Many of these were unverified or speculative.

In 2025 and into early 2026, more solid evidence of a new chapter emerged. Siya was spotted and later publicly confirmed in a relationship with Dutch influencer Rachel John while on a holiday in Zimbabwe, providing a fresh narrative that blends South African sporting royalty with the global lifestyle scene.

The couple’s appearances overseas and shared moments in public spaces like tennis courts and river ferries signalled to many fans that this is more than a rumour, it’s the next chapter for one of SA’s most familiar faces.

In South Africa, rugby isn’t just sport,  it’s cultural identity. Kolisi’s journey on the field mirrors a generation’s aspirations off it: rising from adversity, juggling dreams and love, and navigating life under the spotlight. His dating history shows not just who he’s loved, but how love — messy, joyful, uncertain — is a universal story.

For readers in Cape Town sipping rooibos at a café or watching match highlights on a Sunday afternoon, this is not just a celebrity timeline — it’s a reflection of how relationships can grow, change and endure in a life lived at full throttle.
