Simz Ngema calls out the government on loadshedding

by Johana Mukandila

Actress and singer Simphiwe Ngema, better known as Simz, called out the South African government over loadshedding.

Taking to her social media, the actress shared a video revealing how loadshedding has affected her friend’s business and how the government needs to address and find solutions for loadshedding to end.

“The government is more interested in campaigning and telling us that loadshedding will be over next year but they are not making sensible statements to show us and give us hope that indeed this is going to happen, there is going to be a solution. All we want is for the government to supply citizens with electricity they paid for… These conversations are draining but we need to hold our government accountable,” she said.

In her Instagram caption, the singer continued, saying:

“It is important for us to start having these conversations. We cannot be making plans to work around loadshedding as citizens when we are still paying for electricity. What is our government doing to solve this electricity crisis? It’s time for the government to step up and address the issues of the country,” she captioned her post.

Many of her fans flooded her comment section, agreeing with the singer.

One social media user wrote: “Yes, we are paying for electricity as normal yet the lights are off half the month same with water, not just Tswane even in Durban we struggle. Water goes and no trucks disposed, lights go even if it’s not loadshedding we must sit and just wait, that’s why citizens are getting angry so they burn tyres, they protest because we are living like animals.”

While another user added: “Even here some parts of Eastern Cape loadshedding has affected water supplies. If you have running tap water in your house really count that as a big blessing because the struggle is real out here.”
