Actress and musician Simphiwe Ngema, fondly known as Simz has recently opened up about the death of her hairstylist and close friend of 20 years, Jabu Mayisela.

The muso took to her Instagram page to pen her heartfelt tribute to her friend. In her earnest tribute to Jabu, Simz recalls meeting her friend while she was still in high school and needed someone to do her hair.

“I was in high school and needed someone to do my hair when we first met, I never knew that we would grow so close. I don’t even know what to say because my mind is still in denial.”

Simz devotedly remembers how they have been a support system to one another and the love they shared for each other.

“You loved me so much. You were there for all my firsts, all the milestones and the worst moments of my life. We cried together, we laughed together, and we celebrated together. Here’s to the random holiday, spa dates, phone calls, doing my hair for no reason, showing up to each other, supporting each other and doing this life thing together.

“I am so scared to face a reality that no longer has you in it. Who will force me to go to industry events and make fun of abo ‘good to see you’ with me? Yho Jabu waze wayiphula inhliziyo yam (you broke my heart),” she wrote.

The thespian revealed that she is sorrowful that Jabu will never meet her unborn son, Kabo. She vowed that she would tell her children about Jabu and how kind and passionate he was.

She signed off by saying “uSimphiwe ka Jabu (Jabu’s Simphiwe).”

Instagram users had different opinions on the comment section.

“Why do we honour and show love people when it’s only RIP?” asked one user.

Another one said: “I thought of you, the first time I met Jabu it was with you. I’m so sorry sis.”
