Simphiwe Dana announces return of MOYA

South African singer and songwriter Simphiwe Dana is scheduled to perform at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town this Friday. She will present MOYA, a theatrical production featuring dance directed by renowned choreographer Gregory Maqoma. The musical direction will be provided by Titi Luzipho, with the Vuyani Dance Theatre also participating in the show.

The songwriter describes the production as a way to come to terms with losing her mother in July 2021 and speaks about understanding the concept of death from a spiritual perspective.

According to IOL, the songwriter says, “The pandemic has produced emotional suffering and loss for many people, making it difficult to express and console themselves. Moya, an album, has been a source of comfort and healing for many people, reminding them that their feelings are important and that they don’t have to face terrible times alone. The record serves as a reminder that feelings are valid and that we do not have to face difficult times alone.”

Simphiwe made this announcement last year in December but pinned the post to remind fans on X (formerly Twitter), saying she would be coming to Cape Town for the upcoming show on Friday.

After two successful runs of MOYA in Johannesburg we heed the call to present this work for our Cape Town audience.

Another user commented, expressing that the show should not have been in January but rather the end of February the following month.

The dates though ? why not end February?

The songwriter included the information about the dates of the upcoming shows alongside the post, as this will help the fans of the artist to stay informed about the schedule of the shows and plan accordingly.
