The former Gomora actor Sicelo Buthelezi recently shared on his social media that he was called a “Skeem Saam rapist” by a fan because of his character, Toby.

The award-winning actor and musician recently joined Skeem Saam playing Toby Maswahla.

According to the character Toby is a mischievous guy, and he has been in trouble from the get-go stealing from Lehasa’s restaurant and being expelled from Varsity.

This time around, though, he is in deeper trouble as he slept with Ntswaki without her consent. He probably assumed that since they were dating, it was a given that she had to sleep with him. Well, now Toby is in trouble for rape and has just been detained in a police cell.

Taking to X formally Twitter he wrote,” Just walked inside a garage and the guy standing next in line greets me like “Eyy ke wena rapist ya #SkeemSaam kinda felt something inside hey…I’m just an actor bro…”

Most of our local actors and actresses slay their roles so perfectly, it looks like they are playing themselves. Sadly, this can have some dire consequences, more so when the role is that of a villain.

According to YouthVillage, Generation Pamela Nomvete and Katlego Danke were attacked by fans because of their roles. Skeem Saam actresses Lerato Marabe and Helen Bright have also been victimised all because of their characters. Another actor from Skeem Saam, Vusi Leremi, was once reprimanded by an old woman in his neighbourhood for “being drunk” on the show.

Fans took to the comments, expressing their sympathy for Sicelo.

One user said: “At least you didn’t get slapped like Pamela Nomvete for her role as Ntsiki Lukhele.”

Another user said: “Askies teddy, people sometimes forget that it’s acting.”
