The World Culinary Awards is a prestigious ceremony that aims to shine a light on the incredible talent and innovation that fills the culinary world. Taking place at Summersalt Jumeirah Al Naseem, Dubai, UAE, the event was a star-studded affair, including the whose who of the industry where South African renowned chef, Siba Mtongana was recognised as the Africa’s Best Hotel Restaurant.

Repeating last year’s grand accomplishment, Chef Siba’s renowned restaurant snatched the award for Africa’s Best Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant. Located in V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, SIBA – the restaurant is a popular tourist destination that offers fun and innovative takes to our diverse local cuisine.

Taking to her Instagram, the former Bona cover star penned a heartfelt message of gratitude, showing appreciation and dedicating the award to God. She also took the time to appreciate her core team, expressing how well they held things down while she was pursuing other projects, such as the SIBA DELI, which is located at Time Out Market in V&A Waterfront.

“Tonight @siba_the_restaurant was awarded Africa’s Best Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant 2024 in Dubai at the World Culinary Awards 2024!! Thank you so much fam for all the love and support, and thank you to the global panel of judges for the nod and the @worldculinaryawards for the incredible honour and recognition!” a portion of her caption read.

Siba’s journey in the culinary industry has been a heartwarming one to witness. As a child from Mdantsane, a small town in the Eastern Cape, she represents a significant portion of South Africa’s demographic which has often been disconnected from the world of fine dining and international cuisines. Although it is not her responsibility, Siba represents a bridging of two separate worlds, offering representation for those previously forgotten.
