Award-winning musician Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif, popularly known as Sho Madjozi, is reportedly embroiled in a five million rands legal battle with her former agency, Black Major.

This is after Black Major accused Sho Madjozi of failing to pay them their share of over 5 million rands. Before she hung her microphone to pursue other interests, Black Major claims that they paid the John Cena hitmaker US$250 000 in advance. In terms of their contract, the recording label claims it’s entitled to 20% of that amount.

Black Major also claimed that they are entitled to 20% of Sho Madjozi’s gross revenue from all other activities and income generated throughout her involvement in the entertainment and music industry.

The legal dispute arose when Black Major filed a lawsuit in the Johannesburg High Court in December 2025, after the John Cena hitmaker allegedly ignored the agency’s letter of demand for payment, reported Daily Sun.

According to the above-mentioned publication, the court papers cited that Black Major said it rendered artist management services to Sho Madjozi between July 2021 and February 2025. These services included arranging live tours and performances, brand deals, as well as recording and publishing agreements.

In rendering these services, the agency said they made payments on her behalf.

The publication further reported that Black Major alleged they incurred unpaid disbursements on Sho Madjozi’s behalf relating to the Southern African Music Rights Association (SAMRO).

The agency added that Sho Madjozi still owes them money for costs incurred relating to certain tours, the production of the documentary, brand disbursement costs, book-related disbursements and expenses linked to her popular songs Ndirine and Kadigong.
