Limpopo-born singer and songwriter Maya Wegerif, affectionately known by her stage name Sho Madjozi, hinted that her music career might end soon.

The news comes following the recent announcement of her soon-to-be-released album, Limpopo Champions League Vol.2.

In an interview with news and entertainment publication The Citizen, the John Cena hitmaker spoke openly about the struggles of living up to the demands of others when entering the music scene.

She revealed that this has often put her in positions where she was expected to move away from what has made her authentic and says this was draining her energy.

“The way that the music industry is set up at the moment, you spend more time trying to get attention,” she said.

Sho Madjozi explains that the biggest drainage of energy is having to constantly be the trending topic on social media to stay relevant when all she desires is to enjoy making music. “I don’t have the energy to play that game and constantly be performing for attention or calling for attention. I’m not really good at that.”

In 2020 the singer signed with the renowned American label Epic Records, a company known for having produced some of the biggest artists that included Mariah Carey. While Sho was excited about being on their books at the time, she has now decided to step away from the company following disagreements on how she wanted to brand herself.

“I’m being told I need to add more English or I need to wear fewer clothes and I’m just like ‘this was not part of the plan, this is not me, it was never me,’” she says.

“They wanted a star that they could Americanise and I couldn’t be that. I don’t think they had sinister intentions, I just think it wasn’t a good match.”

Going forward she says that she plans to focus her attention on her hair brand Sparkle, to work on children’s books, and venture into film which is what she studied before becoming a musician.
