Entrepreneur and businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize is firmly in the crosshairs of the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
The outstanding R38 million bill is owed by the reality TV star and her fellow trustees of the Shandi Trust. ZiMoja also earlier reported this year that the Premier Soccer League team boss owes R13 million in personal income tax.
According to Briefly News, the businesswoman and her fellow board trustees attended a tax enquiry into Shandi Trust’s outstanding taxes.
Some of her business colleagues were questioned, including Shaun Stylist and her sister Nozipho Ngubo.
Mkhize’s estranged husband Sbu Mpisane made an appearance and was questioned on his family trust’s failure to comply with tax laws.
When asked how the enquiry had gone, Sbu told the Sunday Tribune: “I don’t know anything about the trust, as it is something that was introduced while I and the wife were already separated.” He added that he couldn’t comment further because the trust issue was still under investigation.
Briefly also reported that a curator on behalf of SARS was appointed by the Pietermaritzburg High Court to seize 13 luxury vehicles owned by the trust.
Last week, SARS lawyer Advocate Coreth Naude who is involved in Mkhize’s case was shot while driving in uMhlanga.
SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter termed the attack an attempted assassination, EWN reported. According to reports, Naude drove into a hotel parking lot when two men opened fire on her vehicle.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed a case of attempted murder had been opened.
