Shaka iLembe has reportedly been renewed for a second season.

The first season of the television drama series concluded on Sunday with the cast and crew members expressing gratitude for the support over the past few weeks.

The 12-part first season of the Mzansi Magic show featured a star-studded cast with the likes of Nomzamo Mbatha, Abdul Khoza, Lemogang Tsipa and Thembinkosi Mthembu to name a few.

The show’s renewal for a second season was confirmed by MultiChoice on Monday.

According to TshishaLIVE, the MultiChoice CEO for general entertainment Nomsa Philiso told the publication the following in a statement:

“MultiChoice is really committed to telling the Shaka iLembe story, and this season 2 announcement confirms our intentions to honour the iconic figure of King Shaka with a continuation of his story on air.”

The show outperformed the DSTV App in other African nations and drew more than 3 million viewers for its debut episode.

“The fact that viewers across South Africa, and indeed the continent, have been so passionately supportive of the show, tuning in to watch weekly, sharing their commentary online and really engaging with this layered story of the Nguni kingdoms has been fantastic. We are now looking forward to bringing season 2 to life.”

The publication further reported that in the new season, viewers will be introduced to new characters with Nomzamo returning as the executive producer for the show.

Nomzamo took to her Instagram where she expressed her sadness as the show concluded.

“Sundays will never be the same ? tomorrow is officially the SEASON FINALE of #ShakaiLembeMzansi … it made me cry, clap and leap with joy. It’s truly a thing of beauty! I hope you will be watching ✨?? Thank you for the journey so far!”
