Senzo Meyiwa’s family unhappy with denied access to Kelly Khumalo’s daughter

It’s been 10 years since Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was gunned down at his then-girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus, and his family is still unhappy about many things.

According to statements made by those who were present at the singer’s home when the fatal incident occurred, Senzo was shot after two men budged into the house and started demanding cell phones and money.

At the time, Kelly’s daughter Thingo who she shares with the late soccer star, was just seven months old.

The news of Senzo’s death angered his family who felt there was more to the story than what was being shared. This led to animosity between the singer who did not go to her love’s funeral and his family.

Local publication ZiMoja reported that Senzo’s family are desperately seeking to have access and build a bond with the 10-year-old Thingo, but Kelly will not let them.

It is said that Senzo did take his daughter to her parents in KZN when she was six months but that was the first and last time they got to hold her.

The drift between the two families may have also been caused by a lot of speculations and theories around the soccer star’s death.

In an interview on SABC’s Real Talk With Anele, the singer declared that the Meyiwa’s will never see her daughter Thingo. This left a lot of people conflicted with some saying it was her right to say so considering that Senzo’s now late father said Kelly was a “curse” to his son.

A source close to the family told ZiMoja that Senzo’s mother and sister Zama are dying to meet their daughter Thingo.

The source added, “All they want is to spend time with Thingo so that she knows her siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. It is unfair for the child to only hear about the Meyiwa family in the media and not spend time with them.”

Senzo’s sister Zama confirmed to the publication that they had been trying to see Thingo with no success.

“The whole family is not happy at the fact that we don’t have access to her, and she is a big part of our family and she looks like my brother. I just wish we could spend time with her even if it’s an hour,” said Zama.
