The Scorpion Kings, a dynamic duo comprising of the legendary Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa, took a break from being among the hottest acts in mzansi to show off their talents in Central Park, New York City.
The expectations for the event were quite high as the hosts, Piano People are known for hosting some of the best dance parties worldwide. Bringing out the duo to perform in New York City for the first time was one way to guarantee a good time for the attendees as their sound speaks the universal language of music that gets the people going.
“Piano People brings the party with their unique festival-style lineups that highlight African dance music and especially the South African house genre amapiano. To Central Park, they bring Scorpion Kings, made up of Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa. Piano People has hosted shows and festivals across the world, turning venues in London and Portugal into high-energy dance parties filled with all the good vibes” the City Parks Foundation website says with regards to the event.
A clip shared by an X (formally Twitter) user depicted the Americans singing their hearts out along to the duo’s hit songs.

The Scorpion Kings were also joined by kwaito music legend Oskido, who took to his Instagram to pen a heartfelt message about what the entire experience meant to him and South African music in general.
“It was an honour to be part of the Scorpion Kings’ sold-out gig at SummerStage in Central Park, New York. This historic moment is a testament to the global impact of our African-grown music, especially the Amapiano movement. From the days of Kwaito, it’s inspiring to see how far we’ve come. To everyone with a dream, stay focused—nothing is impossible. See you at the next one in London!”
