Scepticism shadows Pearl Thusi’s recollection of Thabo Bester encounter

After eagerly tuning in to Netflix’s highly anticipated Beauty and the Bester documentary, Pearl Thusi has garnered some suspicious looks after viewers dissected her recollection of her encounter with the infamous ‘Facebook rapist’.

Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana, a.k.a Mzansi’s Bonnie and Clyde are currently at the center of one of the country’s most bizarre and high-profile cases. This story, which paints a picture of a medical doctor’s fall from grace into a life of crime, has left the country scratching their heads, wondering where it all went wrong for Nandipha.

This story, which feels more like a fairytale to many, spans over many years and ties in various unexpected characters into the mix. Enter Pearl Thusi, one of South Africa’s most prominent media personalities who revealed that she too had almost become one of Bester’s victims in 2011 when she fell for his scam, and believed that he could put her onto a hosting/MCing gig.

However, when comparing notes, long-time followers of this case have noted a few discrepancies in the actress’ story that she told SowetanLIVE back in 2013, and the account she gave to Netflix. These users have expressed concern over the credibility of Pearl’s story, as they highlight that they believe she left some key information in the documentary, including the fact that Bester’s murder weapon, which was a sharp pocket knife, was found and retrieved from Pearl’s Randburg home.

I like Pearl Thusi so much but her story on Beauty and The Bester makes zero sense. From being harassed by a knife to giving someone a bible and praying together ??? pic.twitter.com/DnjsWX4Rlv

I’m confused by Pearl Thusi’s story and it doesn’t add up. So a complete stranger holds you at knife point and then instead of calling cops you call pastor to pray for this dangerous man ??? #beautyandthebester
