Scandal’s Nomvelo Makhanya spills the beans on her soapie exit

Former Scandal actress Nomvelo Makhanya has recently spilt the beans following her exit from the well-known soapie.

Nomvelo who played the role of Lindiwe Ngema was a regular on the local production and spent 10 years working on the production, after first joining the list of well-known casts when she was just 16 years old.

In November 2022, it was reported that the actress would officially make her final appearance as her storyline on the soapie has officially come to an end.

At the time, the Scandal production team shared a statement honouring her for her work.

“Nomvelo Makhanya has been with Scandal for ten years! and her story role has grown extraordinarily over the years …” the statement read.

However, she later slammed this news and said that the main reason for her leaving was because she was fired, and that the working environment was toxic.

In a new revelation, the actress who is now a DJ, shared more information on her departure two years ago.

In an interview on the Access Genie Podcast with Ancillar Nombewu, Nomvelo revealed that the main reason for her departure was that she was fired after exposing her director and floor manager for being drunk.

“I was written off a week and a half after I had reported them, and I got called into the office. The news was delivered to me, and it was made to seem like I was the one with the problem. Like I was the one with the issues. But I took it like a champ and held my head high,” she shared.

She further explained that those in charge later began finding fault with everything she did, and before she knew it, she heard rumours in the corridors that she would soon be departing.

“A lot of the time, people in power always want to show you that they hold the trump cards. And when you start speaking up against their bullsh*t, they want to make sure that you struggle.

“I was redlisted, for a while. That basically means you do not work. The minute you show up, they already know who you are because they have been told. They wanted to prove that they are bigger than me and they made me, it is a power thing.”

While the journey thereafter may have had its toll on her mental and emotional well-being, she says that she now finds herself in a much better space after going through some healing therapy.
