Royalty Soapie Awards nominees announced

The much-anticipated list of nominees for the seventh edition of the Royalty Soapie Awards has finally been revealed.

With the power vested in thespians, Eric Macheru and Hellen Motsuki; the Skeem Saam duo announced the nominees on a special broadcast on SABC1, where some of them will emerge as winners on the Awards ceremony which will be held on the 24th of August 2024, at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria.

Founded and owned by actress Winnie Ntshaba, the Royalty Soapie Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the talent of actors, make-up artists, costume designers and producers.

Speaking to Sunday World, Winnie said: “We have gone an extra mile to ensure that there are measures in place to properly screen all entries received. This is for compliance with all the relevant rules of the awards.

“Based on the public votes, for example, the Viewer’s Choice Best Actor and Viewer’s Choice Best Actress awards and Your Favourite Show in the nominees to go out hard and campaign to their fans,” she said.

Among the nominees that left some of the internet users torn in half is Sindi Dlathu for the character she portrayed on The River, Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikana and Deli Malinga for playing Thenjiwe ‘Mamzobe’ Mzobe on Umkhokha-The Curse.

The two are nominated in the category of Outstanding Female Villain alongside Khabonina Qubeka for the role of Oby Abudu on Generations: The Legacy, Connie Chiume as Sonto on Gomora, Linda Sebezo as Rebecca Mabuza on Isitha- The Enemy and Nokuthula Ledwaba who played Angelina Mthombeni on The River.

Entertainment commentator, Jabulani Macdonald took to his X (formerly Twitter) to share some of the nominees.

In his post, Jabulani noted that Sindi and Deli have both been nominated for Outstanding Female Villain and Outstanding Lead Actress, in which X users shared their conflict on who to vote for.

Elizabeth Serunye has also been nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress for playing Jacobeth Thobakgale on Skeem Saam.

Skeem Saam bagged another nomination with Harriet Manamela in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role as Meikie Maputla.

Mathews Rantsoma and Nomvelo Makhanya have also been nominated for Outstanding Couple for their roles as Nhlamulo Maseko and Lindiwe Ngema.
