Robot Boii honours fallen legends with a song

by Samantha Mochele

South African dancer and singer Robot Boii collaborated with Mr JazziQ and Jay Music to create the track “Magents (Khululu).” In the song, he lyrically pays homage to fallen legends.

The song is about late Amapiano legends Killer Kau and Mpura, as well as other members of the Big 5 who tragically lost their lives in a car crash.

During an interview with Drum at Yfm’s GRYND event, Robot Boii offered a glimpse into the creative process behind the latest song, ‘Magents (Khululu).’

Reflecting on the origin of the track, Robot Boii described the experience as “dope”.

The creative process wasn’t just about crafting a catchy beat; it was about channeling the spirit of those who inspired it.

“To the gents that have left us, the Big 5, we continue from where they left off and we’ve got them,” Robot Boii passionately declared during the interview, echoing the song’s mission to carry forward the torch of their legacy.

He emphasised that the song was not only a tribute to the departed but also a homage to their fans, who continue to cherish their music.

“We’re not just doing it in honour of them, but in honour of their fans too, who miss their music.”

Robot Boii’s talent runs deep within his veins, as he hails from a lineage of artistic excellence. His father is none other than the legendary Mzwakhe Mbuli, celebrated poet and cultural icon.
