The countdown to the highly anticipated ‘Back to the City’ festival is officially on and attendees need to brace themselves for an experience unlike any other. The festival has revealed the first part of their extensive line-up. This comes shortly after the popular festival celebrated 18 years of unforgettable memories.

Back to the City is a festival with a rich history, with the first event taking place 18 years ago. The vision of the festival has always been to empower South African hip-hop, and this is done by giving the trailblazers and contributors of the culture the flowers they deserve, while simultaneously providing a platform for newcomers to make an impression and use the networking options available to their advantage.

Taking to Instagram, event organisers revealed that K Keed, Qwellers, Tony Dayimane and Usimamane were among the headliners that would be gracing the stage on the day.

“Get ready for the ultimate Hip Hop experience as we introduce Power Hour, showcasing the freshest new wave of talent! Catch the live performances by: K.Keed, Qwellers, Tony Daliymane and Usimamane. These rising stars are set to bring the heat and redefine the Hip Hop scene. Don’t miss out on the action!” the caption reads

Each one of these youngsters has made waves in the hip-hop space respectively, showing any doubters that South African hip-hop is very much alive. K Keed has established herself as a notable MC and lyrical assassin with her unique flow and melodies in a male-dominated space, securing features with some of the biggest names in the game.

The Qwellers are arguably the face of new-school hip-hop currently as these young have a noticeable influence on the youth and popular culture, with their trendy lingo, fashion and music. Usimamane and Tony Dayimane on the other hand have established themselves as a dynamic duo that can thrive independently. The two youngsters have turned some heads with the work they have put out, garnering comparisons to the likes of Blxckie and Nasty C.

The addition of these youngsters further adds to the element of excitement and anticipation that already exists due to the festival’s successful record.
