This past weekend the tone was set as thousands of fans streamed into Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium to witness the live performance of American rapper Rick Ross.
The Ashton Martin hitmaker was the headline act at this year’s eagerly awaited Durban Music Festival which was organised by Gregory Wing’s Blue Screen Entertainment.
Taking to his Instagram page, Rick Ross, best known by his catch phrase “Boss” took fans on a behind the scenes experience of just how electric the sold-out stadium had become the moment he stepped onto the stage to render his performance.

While the rapper visited mzansi earlier this year to shoot a music video and an advertisement with Pick n Pay in Cape Town, this weekend marked the first time he performed on South African soil.
Meanwhile, the event also featured an array of local superstars which included Nasty C, DJ Tira, Sjava, Big Zulu, and many more, all of whom originate from the KwaZulu-Natal province.
Earlier this year, event organiser Gregory Wings elaborated more on why planning an event of this magnitude was so important to him.
“We’re bridging the gap between the U.S. music culture and the incredible sounds of South African music. We’re celebrating our cultures, our rhythms, and our love for music, the passion of the hustle.”
While the show had been successful in delivering on expectation, things were not as seamless when it came to behind the scenes planning as there appeared to be a miscommunication between the organisers and security which resulted in them not being able to access the suites.
Speaking to the news and entertainment publication TshisaLive one source said: “At some point the organisers were prevented from entering a suite. Imagine you can’t gain access to a VIP area at an event you’re hosting.”
