Entrepreneur and The Real Housewives of Durban star Annie Mthembu recently opened up about her abortion on the podcast, Engineer Your Life.

“I had an abortion. That abortion made me ashamed to the point where I couldn’t walk into church without crying. I couldn’t face God. I didn’t want to talk to Him. I wanted to hide from Him,” she confessed to host, Lungelo KM.

She also notes that her husband, businessman Kgolo Mthembu, brought her back to God after she experienced an overwhelming feeling of shame. “I just fell off over the years because of shame,” she admitted.

“He said to me, ‘It’s so important that you get in touch with God.'” Annie explained that her husband is a highly spiritual individual and describes him as a prayer warrior. “I know I make things about my husband a lot, but Kgolo saved me.

“I had completely given up on my relationship with God and he helped me find myself again and find my connection with God. He was the first man that made me stop feeling guilty and feel fine about the decision to have an abortion.”

Lungelo KM thanked Annie for sharing her personal story. He said, “As a woman of influence, it’s important that this is on a platform that is worldwide. It is important for women around the world, regardless of what background they come from… to know that their body is their body. Their emotions and their decisions at a certain time are valid.”
