Umlilo hitmaker Rethabile Khumalo is reportedly in hospital and on the verge of fighting for life.

It is said that the singer has been hospitalised following an incident in which she is alleged to have been poisoned.

The news was confirmed by the singer’s mother Winnie Khumalo via a social media post in which she revealed the current state of her daughter.

In the post, she stated: “It has been six days now in hospital. So, I decided it was only fair to share with her supporters the sad news. They have done three operations on her already.

Overwhelmed by the events that have unfolded Winnie turned to fans and close friends of the singer to keep the family in prayer as they remain hopeful for a breakthrough in her daughter’s recovery.

“We hope Rethabile will soon recover, but at the moment akukho kuhle (it doesn’t look good). She has been on and off. When you pray, please include her in your prayers,” she said.

Winnie later shared more insight into what led to her Rethabile’s hospitalisation, adding…

“So, I thought I would keep quiet until my daughter is OK. She is fighting for her life. She has been poisoned by a friend.”

In a follow-up interview with the news and entertainment publication Daily Sun, she said:

“I am not doing well at the moment. We are praying that she gets better.

“She’s still in the hospital as we speak. We are hopeful that she’ll recover soon,” she said.

She later said she would provide all the necessary updates, should her daughter’s condition change.

Meanwhile, another source has since told the entertainment publication TshisaLive that the singer was due to undergo a fourth surgery, this comes after the poison is said to have spread to more parts of her body.
