Supporters of the suspended Democratic Alliance MP Renaldo Gouws have taken action to ensure that the politician gets the best legal representation possible following allegations of racism.
Renaldo Gouws has become the enemy of both black and white South Africans alike. This follows the emergence of a decade-old video clip showing the 41-year-old making multiple racial and discriminatory remarks about black South Africans in the country. One of the more popular lines that have caused widespread controversy within the country was when he uttered “Kill the Kaff@r.”
Although published long ago, the video has since come back to haunt him and recently led to his suspension from the Democratic Alliance.
With a court appearance now pending, supporters of Renaldo have taken action by creating a Back a Buddy crowdfunding account to assist him with legal proceedings against the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
With a goal that is aimed at reaching R100 000, the group has just passed half the mark.
Speaking to news publication, The South African, the creator of the account, Matthew Dickason says that he believes that Renaldo’s statements were taken out of context.
“He also clearly says in the video that he didn’t mean the words he just used but wanted to showcase the double standards and wanted to illustrate how someone else could be hurt by the words uttered.
“Now, 14 years later, his question has been answered, and the point of the video has been made. There seems to be a clear double standard when it comes to racism in South Africa.”
Matthew encouraged others to support Renaldo against the SAHRC, who he claims didn’t see Malema’s previous words “Kill the boer” as hate speech yet wants to take action against Renaldo.
