Multi-award-winning gospel singer, Dr Rebecca Malope, will be receiving high honours at this year’s Basadi in Music Awards ceremony.
The event, which shines a light on the importance of celebrating and honouring women in the entertainment industry, is set to make its fourth return this year. It will take place on the 2nd of August at the Joburg Theatre.
After uplifting women from as far back as 2022, the awards will acknowledge the musical icon and her contributions through the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
Organisers of the event recently confirmed the news via an Instagram post.
“We are proud to announce our Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Dr Rebecca Malope. The Gospel legend will be honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s ceremony, taking place on Saturday, 2 August 2025 at the iconic at the Joburg Theatre. Her soul-stirring voice and unwavering dedication have shaped the heartbeat of our nation’s music for decades,” they captioned.

Following the announcement, the “Queen of gospel,” as she is affectionately known, expressed her gratitude.
“Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award is such an honour, I’m grateful beyond words,” she said in an interview with the entertainment publication, TshisaLive.
“To still be seen and celebrated after so many years in this industry is a great blessing from God — one I never take for granted.”
This will be the second time that the Isandla hitmaker has received an award of this magnitude.
Earlier this year, she was also awarded the same accolade at the Metro FM Awards.
