With the eighth season of Uthando Nesthembu recently wrapping up, viewers were concerned about what they would be watching. With various interesting plots in the works, Skeem Saam has quickly emerged as a potential successor.
In a world of unequal representation, and where members of some ethnic groups have expressed frustration in the overrepresentation of some cultures, while theirs are grossly underrepresented in South African media, Skeem Saam has stood out as one of the only shows to proudly showcase Turfloop and the Pedi culture.
Debuting back in 2011, the team behind Skeem Saam has seemingly cracked the code on the longevity game, and one can only assume that their consistency in covering topics that mirror society and those that are hot topics has something to do with it.
Recently, viewers of the show have taken social media by storm, as they deliberate on their feelings about Mapitsi’s infidelity, with some anxiously anticipating the day Tbose uncovers this. Furthermore, fan-favourite character, who had taken a four-year hiatus from the show, Rachel Kunutu, is set to make an unexpected return to the show, while Howza Mosese is set to make his debut as Ghost.

Besides giving the show kudos for their consistency in providing South Africa with quality entertainment over the years, viewers have taken to social media to reveal their excitement for the upcoming episodes, as there is plenty to look forward to. With Tbose about to become privy to his wife’s cheating escapade, and thee Rachel Kunutu making her return, viewers have dubbed the show as must-see-Tv, and have made bold claims about the show carrying local TV at the moment.
Skeem Saam’s consistency needs to be studied. Even now, people still watch it, and it’s always trending.

Skeem Saam writers are some of the best writers in Africa🔥🔥🔥🔥.
It’s their intentionality with relatable storylines, their perfect pacing and ability to deliver what needs to be delivered and at the right time.
That kind of creativity can’t be found just about anywhere.— Writer Bae✍🏽🎬🎥 (@prim_ntomby) May 15, 2025
