EFF leader Julius Malema has found himself at the center of some controversy after voicing his frustration at Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s lack of availability for the ad hoc committee established to uncover the corruption allegations he made.
Like many other countries, South African citizens find themselves facing an array of issues. These range from an alarmingly high unemployment rate, to a debilitating economy, as well as the concerning levels of substance abuse, coupled with a rising crime rate. As these issues remain unaddressed by the government, tensions continue to grow, as citizens’ frustration get louder by the day.
Adding fuel to the fire came top cop Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s infamous media briefing, where several top officials were implicated in allegations of corruption. As expected, this fueled citizens’ already existing anger and frustration, putting immense pressure on the government to act, and fast.
In response, a judicial commission and a parliamentary ad hoc committee have been established to investigate the allegations corruption and political interference made by KwaZulu Natal’s Provincial Commissioner.
However, things have quickly turned sour, after a frustrated Julius Malema went off after Mkhwanazi revealed that he is currently not available to appear before the ad hoc committee due to his commitments with the judicial commission. The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader angrily states that the top cop needs to take responsibility for the mess he created, instead of dodging accountability.
“This ad hoc committee is established because Mkhwanazi took his own time to say the things he said. And he’s not going to tell us now, that he is not available… he needs to be called…. and if he is not responsive, we must summon him,” the CIC says.
Julius Malema is not wrong and y’all are making this personal while it’s not. Mkhwanazi must avail himself because he’s the reason there’s a commission of enquiry. This is more like a hearing … he needs to be there when needed. pic.twitter.com/xITYk3xxw0

Although some loyal EFF members have spoken out in his defence, these sentiments by Julius were not well received by the public, who have developed a deep loyalty to Mkhwanazi. The CIC has garnered s0me backlash, and has been labeled as a ‘flip-flopper’ by some who highlight how he previously hailed Mkhwanazi for his efforts exposing crime and corruption at the highest level.
The public has come to Mkhwanazi’s defense, highlighting how he cannot be present both at the judicial inquiry, as well as the ad hoc committee. They also take issue with the EFF leader saying Mkhwanazi created a ‘mess’ when exposing the alleged rot that has infiltrated the country’s to structures.
This tantrum is uncalled for!
Mkhwanazi has indicated that the Madlanga Commission has booked his availability until the 17th September, where they will be commencing their work.
He will then be available from the 24th.
He is disclosing the logistics to help everyone in…

The paid agent Malema has received payment to attack Mkhwanazi.
He says being a whistleblower is “starting a mess” https://t.co/HG0zoHh7Yh— Naledi (@LimpopoLadyy) September 6, 2025
