Polygamist and reality TV show star Somkhanda Gumbi has quickly become the talk of the town after his traditional wedding, aka ‘umkehlo’, to a 22-year-old Zama Duma has social media users gasping in awe.

Similar to fellow polygamist Musa Mseleku, Somkhanda came into the limelight when his reality TV show, which provided a different glimpse into the world of polygamy, quickly gained notoriety. Since then, the Gumbi family has become one of mzansi’s most popular and topical families in the country.

Roughly four months ago, Somkhanda controversially made headlines after it was reported that he had found love and a third wife in 22-year-old maiden Zama Duma. The public criticised the nature of the relationship, highlighting how the Shembe church has normalised relationships and marriages that encourage and perpetuate ideologies such as paedophilia and general predatory practices.

Inkosi uShembe needs to call out and stop those criminals who are using the name and customs of the historic sacred creed to wangle their financial crimes and money laundering shenanigans.

Recently, pictures and videos of Somkhanda and Zama’s traditional wedding, which is referred to as ‘umkhehlo’ has been the talk of the town as social media users marvel at what appears to be a successful and jubilous matrimonial affair where two families united as one.

Oh congratulations to 22 year old Wits Law graduate Zama Duma for getting married to Somkhanda “Carolight” Gumbi , Trolls will say I am hating but enjoy your 8 years of marital bliss my love ,bc once you turn 30 he’s going to marry a brand new a 21 year old replica of you ??? pic.twitter.com/pGJyXJ3KCg

Although these users have complimented the actual nuptial ceremony, citing how the overall vibes made for an exciting event, they continue to voice concern over the couple’s age gap. They highlight the fact that Zama only recently graduated from the University of Wiwatersrand with an LLB, while Somkhanda is approaching his 40s.

Furthermore, these users question whether Somkhanda will seek a fourth wife when Zama reaches her 30s, as he has proven to do the same with his other wives.

She turns 30 this year. Somkhanda usile he wants them young and naive!
