
Actress and DJ Pearl Thusi recently paid homage to late amapiano producer DJ Sumbody after she had a gig at his club, Ayepyep Lifestyle in Cape Town.
The well-known media personality who recently began her career as a DJ has been actively booking gigs. During her recent performance at her friend’s club, she felt very emotional. The friend, DJ Sumbody, whose real name is Oupa John Sefoka, tragically lost his life in a hail of bullets two years ago.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Pearl wrote, “Cape Town I’m Still here and I need you tonight at Ayepyep before we hit Coco tonight. My friend never got to see this part of my journey so please pull up so we can make it special! My first time playing at @ayepyeplifestylecpt.”
DJ Sumbody was not only famously known for his hit singles but also the many clubs he owned with business partner Kagiso Setsetse in Pretoria and Cape Town who according to news publication, SundayWorld had taken out R15 million worth of life cover for the late producer.
In a recent interview with the above-mentioned source, businessman Ralph Stainfield told the above-mentioned source late last year that during the club’s renovation, both business partners were threatened by gangsters who told them they needed to pay a protection fee to operate their business in Cape Town which caused the club to close for a while.
He further explained that before the producer’s death, the agreement among the three parties Nicole, DJ Sumbody and Kagiso was to share their profits evenly amongst one another, adding that after being threatened by these gangsters they had a meeting where he provided security for them.
