As we enter the business end of the 2024/2025 United Rugby Championship (URC) season, Cape Town-based team the Stormers find themselves in a tight spot ahead of the quarter-final play-off against Glasgow.
It appears that the Stormers have been back to their winning ways since returning to the DHL Stadium in Cape Town. They managed to secure themselves convincing victories over fellow title contenders Connacht, Benetton, Dragons, as well as the Welsh team Cardiff.
While the team doing the blue and white made sure they kept crowds entertained while simultaneously remaining level-headed to control the game, there was one moment in particular that caused both the crowd and management to cover their eyes in regret.
This came after the double World Cup winner, Damian Willemse was shown a red card for a high tackle in the 58th minute of the game.
With the playoffs now in sight, this guaranteed a suspension, with the possibility for the Stormer to appeal or receive a reduced sentence, however, things have now taken a dramatic turn as the sports publication Rugby365 recently reported that Damian has pleaded guilty to the high tackle.
Subsequently, this has now seen him handed a six-game ban, which was later reduced to three, resulting in him missing some of the playoff matches, including the semi-final, should the Stormers go all the way.
Another game will also be removed if he agrees to attend a tackle school.
With Damian playing an integral part in forming the spine of the team, coach John Dobson will have to make wise decisions if he wants to win another final.
