Nota Baloyi reacts after DJ Sbu and TK Nciza named at Madlanga Commission

When the Madlanga Commission returned to the headlines this week, the conversation quickly spilled beyond politics and into South Africa’s entertainment circles. Names familiar to radio, music, and business suddenly became part of a much bigger national debate.

Among those drawn into the moment was media personality and music executive Nota Baloyi, who finally shared his thoughts after broadcaster DJ Sbu and ANC figure TK Nciza were mentioned during testimony linked to municipal funding.

How the story reached the entertainment world

The Madlanga Commission was established to examine allegations of political interference, governance failures, and related concerns connected to municipal processes and oversight. Its hearings have already pulled in senior officials and claims that continue to ripple across different sectors of society.

During recent testimony, suspended Ekurhuleni legal head advocate Kemi Behari told the inquiry that DJ Sbu, whose real name is Sbusiso Leope, and his business associate Thembinkosi TK Nciza were named among individuals linked in testimony to municipal grants connected to more than R100 million. The claims formed part of a wider investigation into governance failures and financial irregularities within the metro.

The testimony did not spell out the exact nature of any alleged benefit and indicated that the financial trail raised concerns that warranted further scrutiny.

Strong denials and a familiar pattern

DJ Sbu has since rejected the allegations outright, describing them as false and insisting he has not benefited from any wrongdoing. He also indicated he would cooperate with any lawful investigation based on evidence.

For many South Africans, the sequence felt familiar. High-profile names appear in commission testimony, social media erupts, and the public is left waiting for clarity while the legal process continues.

That atmosphere is where Nota Baloyi stepped in.

Nota Baloyi’s response and the online reaction

Baloyi’s reaction added another layer to the unfolding story. Known for speaking bluntly on industry matters, he weighed in after the names surfaced at the commission, prompting heated discussion across social platforms.

Online, the response has been split. Some users have called for patience until the commission completes its work and presents verified findings. Others see the developments as yet another example of how closely business, politics, and entertainment can intersect in South Africa.

The debate reflects a broader public mood around accountability. After years of commissions and corruption inquiries, many South Africans have become cautious about early claims, preferring to wait for final reports and legal outcomes.

This is sickening… Dirty political games endangering people’s lives. Last week they were green-lighting Musa Khawula for the cartels now they’re coming for any & everyone? The Madlanga Commission is already shaping up to be an ANC conference contest. Here we go again!

Why the Madlanga Commission matters beyond headlines

While celebrity names tend to dominate timelines, the commission’s core purpose is to examine serious allegations around governance, oversight, and possible interference within municipal processes. Its final report is expected to be made public, with any suspected misconduct potentially referred to the relevant authorities.

For now, the situation remains fluid. Allegations have been raised in testimony, denials have followed, and the commission continues to hear evidence.

What is clear is that when national inquiries intersect with pop culture figures, the story travels faster and reaches a wider audience. In a country where music, politics, and business often overlap, moments like this tend to spark conversations that go far beyond the hearing room.
