Nobuhle Mthembu leaves ActionSA, accuses party of failing transparency and democracy

ActionSA’s Johannesburg leader, Nobuhle Mthembu, has resigned from the party with immediate effect, citing internal dynamics, a lack of transparency, and poor internal democracy.

Her departure follows her removal as council Speaker through an ANC-backed motion of no confidence, after ActionSA refused to support a motion against Mayor Dada Morero.

Mthembu, who became regional leader and Speaker last year with ANC coalition support, said the party’s decision-making no longer aligned with her values or the interests of her constituency.

“I have come to realise that the party’s internal dynamics and decision-making processes no longer align with my values or the interests of the constituency I represent. I firmly believe that organisations must foster open discussions, transparency, and democracy. Despite our efforts to address these concerns, meaningful change has not been,” said Mthembu.

“Forthcoming as a result, I have decided that it is in the best interest of both me and the constituency I represent to part ways with the party. This marks the end of my association with ActionSA.”
