Many people on social media were not impressed with the South African singer after she sang the national anthem ahead of the Springboks’ Test Match against Italy on Saturday 19 November.

One Twitter user urged the singer to never sing the national anthem again.

“Please never sing the National Anthem again.”

The tweet went viral as many South Africans, all gathered together to share in support of the tweet.

Many South Africans felt that it was one of “the slowest rendition in history.”

According to Kaya 959, Nicole stated that her delivery of Nkosi sikelel’ Afrika, was a result of the conductor starting off slow. However those who watched her sing stated that it was not the speed or lack thereof, but her voice itself.

Nicole came in her own defence stating that:

“Unfortunately, the conductor started too slow. I tried to pick up the speed but I had to follow the band. The acoustics also had a delayed effect on everyone involved. But the most important thing is the emotional aspect,” she said.

However, many tweeps were not impressed with her singing as they vent out on twitter with many saying she should never sing the national anthem again. Here is what tweeps had to say:

Absolutely disgraceful. Singing at 0.33x speed with shameful pronunciation of every language.
Well played Italy. Clearly done on purpose.

Was really terrible, nobody told her at rehearsal it is not suppose to be a death march?
