Ngizwe Mchunu shuts down Steers restaurant amid strike

by Zintle Mdaka

Media personality Ngizwe Mchunu took it upon himself to fight for workers at Steers after they voiced out that they are paid below the minimum wage.

The video clip of the workers picketing outside a Steers franchise in the Berea Centre in Durban, touched many hearts on social media platforms. This prompted Ngizwe to visit the store and shut it down, citing that no customer will enter until the manager resolves the matter with their workers.

In the video shared by MDN News, Ngizwe can be seen arriving at the store and closing the door behind him. He then asks to see the manager, who appears shortly after his arrival.

He explains the reason of his visit, citing that he went there because of the complaints raised by the employees.

Responding to Ngizwe, the manager states that the staff members aren’t allowed on the property at the moment, as the matter is now in the hands of Labour Labour and Civic Organisation (LACO)  and CCMA.
