Newzroom Afrika anchor on immediate leave after road rage incident

by Sergio Miller

The South African news broadcaster, Newzroom Afrika has now officially responded to the viral video concerning one of their news anchors, Aldrin Sampear.

Last week, Aldrin, who is widely considered to be a respected journalist and anchor for the company, was involved in a verbal and allegedly physical dispute with a young woman who allegedly swerved her vehicle into his.

In the video now circulating on various social media platforms, Aldrin can be seen approaching the woman in an act of anger, demanding that she be held liable for the accident caused.

Even though the female’s face was not visible to the camera, she could be heard accusing the news anchor of being physically aggressive with her.

In the short clip, she was continuously heard asking, “Why are you hitting me?”

So @AldrinSampear is saying that at no point did he assault the driver yet you can see him shoving her and take note how one of the vehicles passing by starts hooting at him. Stop lying Aldrin, it’s very clear you pushed her.

Assault is defined as “Making physical contact”. pic.twitter.com/wQultrYjEj

It has since been reported that legal action was taken against Aldrin, with a clear indication of what exactly took place, yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Newzroom Afrika has since shared a statement revealing their stance on the matter, along with the actions they will be taking to get to the root of the situation.

“Newzroom Afrika is aware of an incident involving anchor Aldrin Sampear last week.

Sampear will take a break from his broadcast duties with immediate effect, pending an internal review of the matter. Newzroom Afrika takes the allegations very seriously and we will work swiftly to address the concerns raised”.
