South African and Spanish fans will soon be treated to a blend of international flavour when characters of the popular Netflix series Blood & Water and Spain’s Elite cross paths.
Since its release in May 2020, Blood & Water has become a South African favourite and won Best TV Drama at the 2021 South African Film and Television Awards. Meanwhile, due to popular demand, the gripping series is currently in its third season with the fourth being on the way.
Set in Cape Town, the storyline follows a local teen, Puleng (Ama Qamata), who transfers to an elite school when she suspects that one of the students, Fikile (Khosi Ngema) may be her sister who was abducted as a baby. While all of this takes place, she also uncovers certain things about her family’s secret past and begins connecting the dots.
In the soon-to-be-released seasons of Blood & Water, and Elite, the two well-known characters Fikile, and Elite’s Ivan (Andre Lamgolia) will be switching places.
Fikile will be making her appearance at the Madrid private school Las Encinas in season seven, while Ivan will be making his way to the Cape Town shores at the prestigious Parkhurst in the fourth season of Blood & Water.

In a conversation with Reuters, creative producer of Blood & Water Nosipho Dumisa-Ngoasheng highlighted that this will give both shows a boost.
She further stated that they are always looking at which stories will have the most drama and evoke the most emotion. According to Nosipho, this will challenge the characters in their emotional journeys.
“We like to put them through the wringer and so we thought, what better way to do that,” she added.
Nosipho also believes that because both storylines are based at private schools, it would make the crossover even easier.

Meanwhile, Elite writer and co-showrunner, Jaime Vaca added: “It has the Elite DNA but with a theme that is current and necessary that surrounds and frames the entire season which is mental health.”
